  • Solar Plane AHOY!

From our friends at ECO People http://ecopeopleltd.wordpress.com/2013/04/19/is-a-bird-no-its-solar-plane/ Is It a bird? No, its Solar Plane! 19APR A 26-hour long flight was completed in 2010 starting from Switzerland and finishing in Morocco. So what you might ask? Well this plane was powered solely by solar energy. Impressed? Now the high-tech plane, powered completely by the sun, will attempt to fly coast-to-coast across the U.S. starting in May. On Thursday, Solar Impulse pilots Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg announced that they will take off from Moffett Air Field at NASA Ames Research Centre in Mountain View, California on May 1 and intend to head East to New York City. Along the way, they’ll make stops in Phoenix, Dallas, Washington, D.C. and either St. Louis, Nashville or Atlanta. They anticipate the entire trip will take approximately two months to ...

  • Germany Quadruples Energy Surplus Over the Last Two Years by Morgana Matus, 04/09/13 Read more: Germany Quadruples Energy Surplus Over the Last Two Years | Inhabitat – Sustainable Design Innovation, Eco Architecture, Green Building

This article re-posted from http://inhabitat.com/germany-quadruples-energy-surplus-over-the-last-two-years/ For a country phasing out its nuclear plants, you might expect a downturn in energy production. But Germany has actually seen its power output quadruple between 2011 and 2012. Europe’s leading economy has been pushing for a green revolution, becoming one of the largest markets for solar voltaics and where support for renewables is subsidized by taxpayers. The country’s Federal Statistics Office reported a surplus of 22.8 billion kilowatt hours over the last two years. The government has set a goal to source 80 ...

  • Electricity Free Lighting

Check out this neat idea:   Water and bleach in a bottle fitted to a roof, refracts and reflects light to the interior of a building.  half of the bottle is outside and half inside, refracting light equivalent of a 60 Watt bulb without the need of a power source.  A drop of bleach in the water keeps it clear and germ free.     Go here to read more: http://dornob.com/solar-bottle-lamps-water-bleach-10000-liters-of-light/

  • Green Roofs May Boost Efficiency of Solar Panels

Green Roofs May Boost Efficiency Of Solar Panels It’s no surprise that having both a green roof and a solar panel array on a building is a great way to double down on reducing energy bills for property owners. Two recent studies, however, raised some eyebrows by indicating that the plants on a green roof may actually improve the performance of the photovoltaic solar cells themselves. Read the entire article at Earth Techling.     http://earthtechling.com/2012/12/green-roofs-may-boost-efficiency-of-solar-panels/
